It’s basically a proprietary OS with framework for user-interface, common tools’ reference implementation, and various other useful features. The OS is designed to help manage the memory, power, and input-output (IO) resources particularly for the mobile phones. The operating system would provide a platform which matches the international standards and worldwidetelecom. The idea behind developing this operating system was to enable wireless connectivity across various networks.
Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Siemens, Samsung, and Panasonic are the combined owners of this OS. Moreover, the OS has become the strategic choice of mobile phone giant Nokia for the smart phones the company designs. The OS would allow implementation of the interfaces, management services, industry standard, and other required services.
There is a lot of hype around this operating system which is said to be able to multiply the functionality and performance of the smart phones. Mobile phones with lots of features and technologies running together, and smoother that too at a faster pace is what this OS will bring for us. With Symbian OS, it can be expected that the next generation of the smart phones is going to be smarter than ever for sure.
